I can't remember feeling as excited and optimistic as I did on Tuesday night. I watched the returns with some friends and copious amounts of red wine, followed by celebratory champagne. After John McCain's gracious and classy concession speech and Obama's rousing acceptance, we all went down to the local bar, where there was a full-on dance party in effect. Everyone was crying and laughing and hugging and dancing and chanting. It was amazing. And I have been ending conversations with Obama!, instead of good bye, for days now. WFMU's Clay Pigeon took to the streets of NYC on Election Night, you can hear the results here.
And over on Salon, Heather Havrilesky has a great piece about what it's like for our cynical and irony-steeped generation to feel, finally and en masse, unbridled optimism and joy.
There's a lot of work to be done, but we just hired the right guy to do it.

Totally. My only regret is not being among the celebratory masses. We just had one friend over who made an Irish exit. What a great night, and great week it's been.
